Are you someone who has some experience in ceramics and wants to expand your skillset with slip-casting techniques? Then this class is for you! You will make one-, two-, and three-part functional and sculptural plaster molds. We will highlight plaster mixing and pouring techniques in addition to formulating and mixing slip-casting bodies. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Brett Kern received his BFA in ceramics from California University of Pennsylvania in 2007. He participated in West Virginia University’s Ceramics in China 2007 fall program, completed his MFA in 2010, and was awarded a one-year artist-in-resident position at the Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana. Since then, Brett teaches at Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. He also teaches classes at the Randolph County Community Arts Center and the Augusta Heritage Center of Davis and Elkins College.
While maintaining his teaching career, Brett continues to show nationally and regionally: Taylor Books in Charleston and the White Room in Thomas, West Virginia as well as the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, California. He received a Best in Show in the HWD Juried Sculpture Exhibition at the Rosewood Gallery (part of the Rosewood Arts Center) in Kettering, Ohio, and has participated in the Beyond the Brickyard Annual Juried Exhibition at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana.
